This painting is of women walking towards an altar in church, hands in prayer and veiled. This is a reference to Dou’s adolescence, residing in Rome, where there is a big community of east african women, especially of Eritrea descent. Dou pays homage to these by pulling from imagery of orthodox christianity in Eritrean communities, emphasising the synchronicities that are within the religious upbringing he had and those of others in the diaspora.
